Why Finca Koa is Specialty Coffee
First steps of brewing

Brew Ratio
A coffee ratio is how much coffee vs. water you use. Less water = stronger coffee. More water = lighter coffee

Grind Size
Grind size is like texture. Coarse (like sea salt) brews slow, fine (like flour) brews fast (more in the recipes)

Keep it Fresh
Always use fresh coffee. Beans lose flavor fast. Buy whole beans and grind before brewing for the best taste!

Not too Hot
Don't use boiling water. It burns the coffee. Aim for 195-205°F (90-96°C) for the best flavor. Turn it off and wait a minute

COFFEE MAKER
The Art of Brewing with a Chemex
The Chemex pour-over is a manual brewing method that enhances clarity and balance in coffee. Designed in 1941 by a chemist, its unique hourglass shape and special filter highlight subtle flavors while reducing bitterness.
Intro & Fun Fact
What You Need
Before brewing, make sure you have:- Chemex carafe
- Chemex paper filter
- Medium-coarse ground coffee (like sea salt)
- Hot water (200-205°F / 93-96°C)
- Digital scale & timer

Gather Your Tools & Ingredients
Set Up Your Chemex
- Place the paper filter in the Chemex.- Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any paper taste.
- Discard the rinse water and add coffee grounds (use a 1:16 ratio).

Prep the Chemex
The Bloom: Unlocking Flavors
- Pour 60g of hot water over the coffee bed.- Let it sit for 30 seconds—this is the bloom, where gases escape for better extraction.
Tip: If your coffee is over 2 months old, the bloom step is less necessary.

It's time to start
Slow & Steady Pouring
- At 0:30, pour up to 320g of water.- At 1:15, pour up to 420g of water.
- At 1:45, pour up to 520g of water.
- At 2:15, pour up to 640g of water.
Tip: Pour slowly in circles for even extraction!

Pour in Stages
Sip & Savor
- Let the coffee finish dripping.- Discard the used grounds and filter.
- Swirl, pour, and enjoy a clean, bright, and balanced cup.
The Chemex filter is thicker than standard filters, giving the coffee a smooth mouthfeel with crisp acidity.

French Press: Bold & Simple
The French Press is a timeless brewing method, invented in 1929, that delivers a rich, full-bodied coffee. Its metal filter allows natural oils to pass through, creating a bold and creamy cup.
Intro & Fun Fact
What You Need
Before brewing, make sure you have:- French Press (plunger & mesh filter)
- Coarse ground coffee (like sea salt)
- Hot water (200-205°F / 93-96°C)
- Digital scale & timer

Gather Your Tools & Ingredients
Measure & Prep
- Use a 1:15 ratio (e.g., 40g coffee → 600g water).- Add the coarse ground coffee to the empty French Press.
Why coarse? It prevents coffee particles from passing through the mesh filter.

Coffee & Water Ratio
Steep & Extract
- Pour hot water evenly over the coffee grounds.- Stir gently to fully saturate the coffee.
- Cover with the plunger (don’t press yet).
- Let it steep for 4 minutes.
4 minutes = the perfect balance of strength & smoothness.

Brewing Process
The Perfect Press
- Slowly press the plunger until you feel resistance.- Stop before reaching the bottom to avoid over-extraction & bitterness.
- Pour immediately into your cup.
Tip: Leaving coffee in the French Press over-extracts it, making it bitter.

Plunge & Pour
Rich, Smooth & Full-Bodied
- French Press coffee is bold, creamy & aromatic.- It highlights chocolate, caramel & nutty notes.
- No paper filters = fuller taste & natural coffee oils.
The simplest way to enjoy specialty coffee at its fullest.

Espresso "The Heart of Coffee"
Espresso is a concentrated coffee brewed under pressure. Invented in Italy in 1901, it’s the base for many coffee drinks. The signature crema on top indicates a perfect extraction!
Intro & Fun Fact
What You Need
Before brewing, make sure you have:- Espresso machine
- Fine ground coffee (like table salt)
- Tamper
- Filtered water
- Digital scale & timer

Gather Your Tools & Ingredients
Measure & Prepare the Coffee
- Use a 1:2 ratio (e.g., 18g coffee → 36g espresso).- Grind coffee fine and even for best extraction.
- Fill the portafilter and tamp firmly for a level surface.
Tamping correctly prevents uneven extraction.

Grind & Dose
Brew the Perfect Shot
- Lock the portafilter into the machine.- Start the extraction.
- A perfect shot takes 20-30 seconds.
- The espresso should yield 1-2 oz (30-60ml).
Too fast? Grind finer. Too slow? Grind coarser.

Extraction Process
Clean & Maintain
- Discard the used coffee puck.- Rinse the portafilter & group head with hot water.
- Wipe the machine to keep it clean.
A well-maintained machine = better espresso every time

After the Shot
Sip & Savor
- Espresso is intense, rich, and full-bodied.- Expect notes of chocolate, caramel & fruit.
- A thick crema means balanced extraction.
The perfect base for cappuccinos, lattes, or a bold shot on its own.

Moka Pot. Italy’s Iconic Coffee Maker
Invented in 1933 by Alfonso Bialetti, the Moka Pot brings espresso-like coffee to homes worldwide. It uses steam pressure to extract a bold, rich brew with a signature crema.
Intro & Fun Fact
What You Need
Before brewing, make sure you have:- Moka Pot (3 chambers: water, coffee, collection)
- Medium-fine ground coffee (like table salt)
- Fresh water (filtered if possible)
- Stove or heat source
Tip: Medium roasts work best.

Gather Your Tools & Ingredients
Prepare the Moka Pot
- Fill the bottom chamber with water up to the safety valve.- Add medium-fine ground coffee to the middle chamber (no tamping).
- Screw the top chamber on tightly.
Don’t overfill with water—it can cause overflow!

Fill & Assemble
Heat & Brew
- Place the Moka Pot on medium heat (avoid high heat).- As water heats, steam pressure forces it through the coffee.
- When coffee starts flowing into the top chamber, turn off the heat.
Too fast? Lower the heat. Too slow? Increase slightly.

The Brewing Process
Pour & Sip the Bold Flavor
- Serve immediately for the best taste.- Expect a strong, full-bodied brew with rich crema.
- Great as an espresso alternative or base for lattes & cappuccinos.
Ratio tip: Use 1:10 (e.g., 20g coffee → 200g water) for balanced strength.

Serve & Enjoy
